| Have anybody thought about creating an "Improve English" podcast? Something like Bob and Rob show or The Word Nerds...
looking forward to your ideas!

| I suppose it would be difficult for a non-native speakers. Otherwise we wouldn't need to improve our English! | |

yeah, I agree. however, have you heard about FOWL radio, or better to say FOWL podcast? It is produced by guys from Switzerland. In my humble opinion, listening to podcasts is one of the most helpful (and enjoyable) activity, by which you could immensely improve your english. I've just put this idea on this forum, I don't have enough IT "know-how" how to do record Skype conversations, how to mix your voice with music and etc. but, others maybe do... and bear in mind that even native speakers sometimes need to improve their english

| I love podcasts greatly! They help me “to kill two hares at one shot” – I mean - to have a lot of fun and to learn smth. And I've written in the old forum what my favourites are. NonPLUSultra is quite right that one can and should improve his own language as well:) I just wanted to say that you have to be comparatively free in usage of the foreign language to start making your podcast on it in order to think about the theme and not bother with the searching for the necessary words and expressions to deliver your ideas. And of course you should be rather enthusiastic and keen on the chosen topic. And the technical side (Skype and so on) is not a problem, not the biggest one in any case:) | |

| In order Olga do not write what she had said in the older forum , you will find below two replies of her :I'd like to introduce a podcasting topic. I've found out that there is such a wonderful thing as podcasts about 3 months ago. And I am really fascinated with them! You probably know what a podcast is. For those who don't: it is a kind of radio shows made by the enthusiasts on a variaty of topics. These shows are available (through i-net) to download as MP3 files. They are mostly in English and it makes it possible for one both to have a lot of fun and to improve the knowledge on the language There are also some educational podcasts. And you may subscribe to the good ones and listen whenever you want. And this is for free Here are some links to the sites where you can find information about multitude of podcasts and choose among them: http://www.podcastalley.com/index.php http://www.podcast.net/ For those of you who have already discovered this great thing - I'd like to ask: what are your favourites? And why do you like them? I like" The Bob and Rob show" and "English as a Second Language" too! They are lovely. And I'll try BBC4. But there are some more interesting podcasts I enjoy listening to: wgbh.org/morningstories Morning stories: this is rather difficult one but really worth trying to comprehend. Each Friday a new life story (sometimes funny, sometimes afully sad) and a small talk afterward which is not worse than the story itself. http://sgshow.blogspot.com/ Sam and Steve Show - this one is different from other podcasts because of it's hosts. Eight-year-old Sam and his dad, Steve, talk about books, fun things for families to do together, and, well, life... really. http://thewordnerds.org/ The Word Nerd is lovely . Each show is devoted to one topic (wheather, colors, eponyms and so on) which is discussed from the linguistic point of view. But it is not boring at all It is " a weekly podcast about words, language and why we say the things we do" http://www.englishteacherjohn.com/index.htm English Teacher John show is an educational one. It might be easy but usefull. You can find grammer, idioms, explanations and so on. http://www.sqpn.com/scripts/dailybreakfast.php Daily Breakfast and other podcasts (analysis of Harry Potter books, Star wars, Narnia...). It is made by a catholic priest who is a very interesting and clever person. I like to listen to him - he touches different topics (not just religion) and his language is plain though English is not his native language. Oh, I have some other favourite podcasts to talk about but I'm a little bit tired Hope you will find something interesting in this list too

| You will find below the reply that SIMRAN posts us in the older forum regarding the podcast he creates "FOWL RADIO". You can subscribe to his podcast. There are nearly ten shows now Hey guys, I've been a member of your group for a while now, but just haven't had the time to post on the forum. Actually, me and Christian, who are both Word Nerds fans, got inspired by them and started our own podcast about language and fun. It's called FOWL Radio (fun of & with language radio). You can check it out at: fowl.dreyer.ch It's in English, but we're both (probably) non-native speakers. Christian is from Switzerland and I, Simran, am from India. Give it a listen and tell me what you think! Some other English podcasts, that I really enjoy are: The Word Nerds (thewordnerds.org) In Our Time (BBC) ( www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/inourtime/inourtime.shtml) History 5: European Civilization from the Renaissance to the Present (webcast.berkeley.edu/courses) Go Digital (BBC) (news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/1478157.stm) Keep posting and improving your English. If you ever need any major help, message me via my frappr page: frappr.com/simran Ciao, Simran | |

Nice to meet you, Olga "To kill two hares at one shot" It is nice expression for describe Podcast. In Korea, we have been said, "Catch two birds with one stone.". 'Stone' means really stone. Long time ago, Korean people use a slingshot to hunt small animals like bird, rabbit, racoon dog, etc. In my humble opininon, may be your ancestor did, too.

| Glad to meet you too, Wonsuk Choi! Sure, my far away ancerstors hunted a lot (perhaps with stones) either. That is why we've got another proverb with hares: one who pursues two hares will catch non of them Funny how often you can find sayings with the opposite meanings But I suppose the last one doesn't work when talking about podcasts | |

| Hello Simran, I listened to your FOWL Radio Podcast. ‘Dus Isch Mi Tag’ sounds interesting because the pronunciations are very different from Japanese. We don’t have the sound made at the back of the throat and tons of h sound. The name is also interesting. Fowl is a bird, right? I’ve never talked to, say French or Dutch, in face. We are familiar to Korean and Chinese. I’ve met some Indians and one of my friends’ husband love Indians. He sees Indians on business. All Indians I’ve met were very friendly and smart. It’s no good to just standardize everyone but it’s interesting we have national characters. Nice to meet you. | |
